Deshaun Watson brought home the Davey O’Brien Award as the nation’s top quarterback for ACC football last season. Four players made the initial watch list for the 2017 award to chase a repeat for the ACC.
Louisville’s Lamar Jackson, last season’s Heisman Trophy winner, headlines the conference’s four representatives on the list. Florida State’s Deondre Francois, Syracuse’s Eric Dungey and Duke’s Daniel Jones round out the four players on the preseason watch list.
Jackson threw for 3,543 yards and 30 touchdowns last season, also rushing for an astounding 1,571 yards and 21 touchdowns.
Appearing on the watch list is not a requirement for a player to win the O’Brien Award. Sixteen semifinalists for the award will be named on Nov. 7. From that list, the Foundation and the Selection Committee will announce the three finalists on Nov. 20. The winner will be announced on Dec. 7 on The Home Depot College Football Awards.
