Arizona State finished with a losing record for the second consecutive season in 2018, the first time that’s happened in program history. But the future is incredibly bright for the Sun Devils, particularly because their most potent offensive threat was only a freshman.
First baseman Spencer Torkelson hit an Division I-leading 25 home runs, one shy of the NCAA record for a first-year player, leading him to be named the Pac-12’s Freshman of the Year on Thursday.

Torkelson obliterated ASU’s previous freshman homer record, which was previously held by Barry Bonds when he hit 11 in 1983.
