Blake Barnett, who announced his decision to transfer from Alabama to Arizona State in December, is certainly one of the most talented players on the Sun Devils roster, and his arrival in Tempe is big for that football team.
But it’s also big in the scope of college football as well. In fact, Yahoo’s Dr. Saturday tabbed Barnett to ASU as the fourth-biggest transfer of the upcoming season.
Quarterbacks pepper the list of 20, and Barnett’s inclusion trails three other signal callers changing places: Malik Zaire to Florida is third, Will Grier to West Virginia is second, and former Baylor standout Jarrett Stidham to Auburn is No. 1 on the list.
Barnett brings 5-star talent to the desert, and is expected to start the season as the Sun Devils top QB. Here’s what Dr. Saturday wrote about Barnett:
Remember how we said Browne started for USC in Week 1? Barnett started that 55-3 Alabama win too. But we’re also not going to blame you if you forgot that fact. He was replaced during the game by Jalen Hurts and Hurts ended up being the team’s starting quarterback the rest of the season. Barnett left the team to transfer during the season and the decision paid off. After choosing Arizona State — where former Alabama assistant Billy Napier is now the offensive coordinator — he was granted immediate eligibility in 2017. Barnett should be ASU’s starter in Week 1 and give some stability to a position that didn’t have any in 2016.
Other Pac-12 transfers of note on the list were former Clemson DL Scott Pagano’s move to Oregon (No. 18) and former Miami OL Sunny Odogwu’s move to UCLA (No. 19).
