After stints as athletic director at Arizona State and Texas, Steve Patterson has moved onto a role in professional sports.
The Arizona Coyotes announced Wednesday that they have hired Patterson to be their new President and CEO. Since switching their name from the Phoenix Coyotes after the 2013-14 season, Arizona has not made the NHL playoffs the past three years.
“I’m extremely honored to join the Arizona Coyotes organization,” Patterson said in a media release. “My wife and I loved living in the Valley of the Sun and we are so excited to return to Arizona. The Valley is a great hockey market with an incredibly loyal and passionate fan base. I’m looking forward to working with Mr. Barroway to create a successful franchise on and off the ice and I’m very excited about the challenges and opportunities ahead.”
Patterson also served as Managing Director of Sun Devil Sports Group and Vice President for Athletics before he was promoted as Arizona State’s AD. He spent a year and a half in that role before accepting the same position at Texas.
