Tied at 1 after ninth-seeded South Carolina scored in the bottom of the fourth inning, No. 8 Arizona State (48-11) scored 4 runs in the top of the fifth to break it open. The big blow was a 3-run double by freshman DeNae Chatman with the Sun Devils leading 2-1.
Senior Breanna Macha went the distance for Arizona State, striking out 6 to earn the victory.
Arizona State will play top-seeded Oregon, which beat Kentucky on Saturday to win its Super Regional 2-1, in the opening round of the WCWS on Thursday. The Pac-12 is sending two more teams to Oklahoma City — UCLA and Washington.
