Arizona State’s top three scorers from last season were senior guards, and their graduation means that more than 57 percent of the Sun Devils’ production must be replaced from that trio. A strong recruiting class is on its way to Tempe to blend with some key returners, but ASU is still in need of additional offense.
Being able to land South Dakota graduate transfer Matt Mooney would be a huge pickup, and ASU is one of five teams still in the running for the 6-foot-3 guard.
South Dakota grad transfer Matt Mooney is down to Creighton, Northwestern, Texas Tech, Utah State and Arizona State, he tells ESPN.

Mooney averaged 18.7 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists last season for the Coyotes, shooting 35.2 percent from 3-point range. He made 152 3-pointers in two seasons with South Dakota after starting his career at Air Force.
According to Evan Daniels of 247Sports, Mooney is set to visit Creighton and Northwestern this week and will check out ASU and Texas Tech “after his finals” at South Dakota. Oregon had reportedly offered Mooney a scholarship but didn’t make the cut for his transfer.
