Arizona spring game preview
Arizona returns a good chunk of the team that went 7-6 in 2017 but lost its final three games and four of five, including to Purdue in the Foster Farms Bowl. Quarterback Khalil Tate wrapped up a masterful sophomore campaign by throwing for 302 yards and 5 touchdowns, numbers he may more frequently put up under new offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone.
Tate was best known in 2017 for his legs, running for an FBS quarterback-record 327 yards against Colorado in October and finishing the season with 1,411 yard. How he mixes the run and the pass during the spring game will give fans an idea of how Arizona’s offense will look this fall.
Development on the defensive end will also be closely watched in the spring game. Arizona was last in the Pac-12 in passing defense last year, when it allowed 34.4 points per game, including at least 40 points on five occasions.
