Arizona landed its highest-ranked commitment of 2018 when 5-star PG Jahvon Quinerly verbally committed to the Wildcats on Tuesday evening during a showcase game on ESPNU. Quinerly selected Arizona over Villanova, Kansas, UCLA and Seton Hall.
The 6-foot, 170 pound Quinerly (Jersey City, N.J.) is the third verbal commitment for Arizona in the Class of 2018 and is listed as the No. 4 PG and the No. 15 overall player nationally, per 247Sports composite.
He visited Arizona in June and although the semester was over and it was during one of the hottest weeks in Tucson, Ariz., he admired the culture.
“It’s like a little basketball city. Everybody is ‘Arizona, Arizona.’ The red, blue and white, you see that everywhere you go,” Quinerly told Rivals. “It’s a good culture around the school. I got to hang out with the players as well and it’s the place you want to go if you want to get to the NBA.”
Quinerly was predicted to commit to Arizona early Tuesday after Zags Blog writer Adam Zagoria tweeted that 4-star PG Devon Dotson, who was heavily recruited by Arizona, took the Wildcats off his list.
Quinerly joins 4-star PF Shareef O’Neal and PG Brandon Williams and while coach Sean Miller looks to bring in two players that could handle point guard duties, Quinerly has a combo guard skill set so he could split minutes in the backcourt.
Quinerly is an advanced ball handler and slashes to the basket when he wants to so a relevant comparison for his game is Kyrie Irving 2.0.
Here’s a video Hoop Diamonds posted with that comparison:
