Eighteen Pac-12 players were honored by Athlon Sports this week. One of them is an Arizona Wildcat.
Khalil Tate was named a third-team preseason All-American by the publication, which released its list Tuesday.
Tate, the surprise of the Pac-12 last season, will be no such thing in 2018. Against Colorado, Tate rushed for 327 yards and 4 touchdowns. In the next five games, Tate rushed for 880 yards and 7 TDs.
Eventually, the opposition caught up, holding Tate to 60 yards rushing and 1 touchdown on 22 attempts in his final two games. He failed to break 200 yards passing in either contest, both losses to Oregon and Arizona State. Tate rebounded in the passing game in a bowl contest against Purdue, throwing for 302 yards, 5 touchdowns and 1 interception, but it wasn’t enough in what was eventually a loss.
The quarterback finished 2017 with 26 total touchdowns (14 passing, 12 rushing) and 9 interceptions, completing 94 of 153 pass attempts for 1,591 yards (including bowl stats).
