Lauri Markkanen is the latest promising youngster to join the Nike brand.
The former Arizona big man has signed a multi-year endorsement deal with Nike, the company announced Monday. Markkanen was selected seventh overall in the NBA draft in June by the Minnesota Timberwolves before he was shipped to the Chicago Bulls in the Jimmy Butler trade.
Markkanen, a native of Finland, averaged 15.2 points and 7.2 rebounds per game in his one season in Tucson. He set a school record for a freshman with 576 points.
The 7-footer joins fellow Pac-12 player and No. 1 pick Markelle Fultz in Nike’s latest crop of endorsement deals. De’Aaron Fox, Jayson Tatum, Malik Monk and Jonathan Isaac are some of the other new faces of the company.
Markkanen seemed pumped about it on Twitter as well.
