In speaking with Bleacher Report about the sponsorship deal, Ayton was asked about the process for finding the right brand to sponsor. Ayton’s answer was eye opening.
Nike is Nike. Adidas is Adidas. I’ve played in their circuits and stuff like that, but now it’s a business. You don’t want just product. You’re not a kid anymore. You’re really trying to get bank. That’s about it.
Puma has signed Ayton and former Duke forward Marvin Bagley III to sponsorship deals in recent days. The brand is not known as a basketball powerhouse by any stretch, but is making a big play in this year’s draft.
Ayton is expected to taken first overall in the 2018 NBA Draft by the Phoenix Suns.
