The bad start to the season for the Baylor Bears keeps getting worse.
Ish Wainwright is out for this week’s game against Duke, and now, defensive end KJ Smith might be out as well, as reported by SicEm365’s Craig Smoak.
#Baylor DE KJ Smith (shin splints) expected to miss second straight game.

No one expected the Bears to be 0-2 heading into their matchup with Duke. It’s very safe to say that there’s no magical fix for a team that’s playing a metric ton of underclassmen and has quarterback issues.
Zach Smith has the start, and while he was solid for Baylor last year, it’s tough to say whether it’s the catalyst needed. Baylor has been incredibly bipolar in their two losses — one highlighted by defensive breakdowns and the other punctuated by offensive ineptitude.
If they can pull the two sides of the ball together, Baylor has the talent to go to a bowl this year. But, the wins needed to get there are seeming more and more distant with each day. A 0-3 pre-conference record would almost certainly doom the Bears, as many of the teams remaining on their schedule are looking fairly daunting.
It’s crazy to think about Baylor facing a must-win game this early in the season, but here we are. And, they might have to do it without the services of their top defensive lineman.
