If you’ve wondered what college football fans believe are the 25 best college football games since the millennium began, look no further.
SB Nation polled fans on Twitter to determine the best college football games played on the gridiron since 2000, and six of the 25 games that made the cut involve a Big 12 team, including No. 1 and No. 2 on the list.
Oklahoma’s stunning overtime loss to Boise State in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl earned the honor of being the “most beloved” college football game since 2000. While the game is certainly nothing more than a painful memory for Sooners fans, the fairytale finish for Boise State combined with tailback Ian Johnson’s postgame proposal to cheerleader Chrissy Popadics is hard to not be captivated by for a typical college football fan.
At No. 2 was a much more glorious moment for the Big 12 – The 2006 Rose Bowl, in which No. 2 Texas defeated No. 1 USC at the Rose Bowl on Vince Young’s last-minute touchdown run to claim the BCS National Championship. The game marked the final broadcast for legendary college football announcer Keith Jackson, on top of a finish for the ages.
Other games involving Big 12 teams that made the list were Texas Tech’s 2008 upset of No. 1 Texas behind Michael Crabtree’s game-winning catch at No. 9, Texas’ narrow victory over Michigan in the 2005 Rose Bowl at No. 13, Baylor’s 61-58 comeback victory over TCU in 2014 at No. 15, and TCU’s comeback victory from a 31-0 deficit over Oregon in the 2016 Alamo Bowl at No. 17.
