The most wonderful time of the year — bowl season — is only two days away.
The Big 12 is sending 80 percent of its teams to a bowl game. It’s the highest percentage of any Power 5 conference.
Texas Tech will start the action for the conference when they take the field against South Florida in the Birmingham Bowl on Dec. 23. The fun will last all the way up to the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1, 2018, when Oklahoma faces Georgia in the College Football Playoff.
But for now, we’re still in the middle of a three-week hiatus of Big 12 football. So why not get pumped up for the upcoming slate by creating some theatrical posters for each game?
Reddit user “CockADoodleBOOM” did just that, for your viewing pleasure — 8 posters for eight Big 12 teams.
So, where shall we begin?
Texas Tech vs. USF — Birmingham Bowl, Dec. 23, 2017
It couldn’t have been any more fitting that South Florida’s mascot is a bull. But will the “matadors” prevail at Legion Field? Big 12 proponents should certainly hope so. Kliff Kingsbury and Co. certainly know a thing about Charlie Strong coached teams, if it serves as an advantage for the Red Raiders.
West Virginia vs. Utah — Zaxby’s Heart of Dallas Bowl, Dec. 26, 2017
Sure, the Utes and Mountaineers are both mountain-men in their own sense. But we’re pretty sure the country roads are far superior in Morgantown than they are in Salt Lake City.
Kansas State vs. UCLA — Cactus Bowl, Dec. 26, 2017
Good play on the city names here, though we’re talking about the “little apple” here.
Kansas State and UCLA’s most recent meeting, the 2014 Alamo Bowl, provided some postgame drama between Bill Snyder and then-UCLA coach Jim L. Mora over a rushed handshake on Mora’s part. This time, the battle of quarterbacks — Josh Rosen vs. Skylar Thompson — should take center stage.
Texas vs. Missouri — Texas Bowl, Dec. 27, 2017
Ah, a good ole’ Big 12 family reunion. Texas hasn’t faced Missouri since 2011 — the Tigers’ final season in the conference before heading to the SEC alongside Texas A&M.
Will the Longhorns tally a winning record in 2017 with a victory just several hours southeast of Austin? Or will Missouri spoil the party?
Oklahoma State vs. Virginia Tech — Camping World Bowl, Dec. 28, 2017
That’s what it’s all about. Oklahoma State fans, to their liking, will also get to see the lethal quarterback-receiver duo of Mason Rudolph and James Washington take the field for the Cowboys one final time.
TCU vs. Stanford — Valero Alamo Bowl, Dec. 28, 2017
We’re not sure if any game can become more memorable for the Horned Frogs than their first trip to the Alamo Bowl in January 2016, as TCU overcame a 31-0 halftime deficit to stun Oregon in overtime. Maybe they’ll just prove us wrong.
Iowa State vs. Memphis — AutoZone Liberty Bowl, Dec. 30, 2017
Is it really fair that Memphis gets to play in their own stadium for a bowl game? Probably not, but a win for the Cyclones will only look that much more impressive if Matt Campell’s squad gets the job done.
Oklahoma vs. Georgia — Rose Bowl, Jan. 1, 2018
The “Granddaddy of Them All” deserves a poster like this. But we’d be perfectly fine if Oklahoma wasn’t crossed out.
The Big 12 has never recorded a single game victory in the College Football Playoff. The Sooners will have the chance to change that when they go up against Georgia in Pasadena on New Year’s Day 2018.
So, be honest. Which poster was your favorite?
Here’s to hoping the Big 12 goes 8-0 this bowl season, and maybe even a win in the national title game.
