The Big 12 Conference isn’t getting much love from Yahoo Sports.
Nick Bromberg of Yahoo Sports’ Dr. Saturday released rankings of all 10 FBS conferences on Wednesday, and the Big 12 finished fifth — last among Power 5 conferences in college football.
Bromberg wrote that the Big 12 lacks a clear-cut national title contender — something that is present “without question for every other Power 5 conference.” Bromberg added that while the Dr. Saturday writers “are fans of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State’s offenses,” shaky defenses, strong nonconference opponents and the Sooners’ loss of several key figures from their 2016 offense “could lessen each team’s margin for championship error.”
Bromberg went on to write that having eight bowl-eligible teams at the end of the season would be a “win” for the conference.
As far as the other Power 5 conferences are concerned, the Big Ten finished at the top of the list, followed by the ACC, SEC and Pac-12.
The Big 12 enters the 2017 season hoping to avoid missing the College Football Playoff for the second consecutive season and third time in the playoff’s four seasons of existence. Oklahoma’s selection in 2015 was the only time a Big 12 team has been a part of college football’s final four.
