Boston College scored a huge win in recruiting, landing class of 2019 quarterback Sam Johnson, who announced his commitment to the Eagles on Monday afternoon.
A 3-star prospect, Johnson, is the 15th-best pro-style quarterback in the 2019 recruiting class according to 247Sports.
“I just felt like academically, Boston College can’t be touched,” Johnson said according to 247Sports. “I love the campus. It is not big, not too small, plus the offense fits my style of play.”
As a junior in high school, Johnson passed for 2,115 yards on 189 attempts, 23 touchdowns and 5 interceptions in 10 games according to MaxPreps.com. Although he’s listed as a pro-style quarterback, Johnson also showcased some running ability, rushing for 263 yards and 5 touchdowns.
The Michigan native was also considering Boston College rival Syracuse, Michigan, Iowa and Missouri. He reportedly received offers from Iowa, Indiana and Illinois as well.
Johnson is the highest rated recruit the Eagles have landed for the 2019 recruiting class according to 247Sports. That, combined with the fact he is a quarterback, should really get the ball rolling for Boston College recruiting. Particularly on offense, landing quarterbacks early in the recruiting period often really helps.
Johnson is the ninth commitment for the Eagles for the 2019 recruiting class. There’s still a long way to go, but Boston College’s 2019 class is currently ranked fifth in the ACC and 26th nationally.
