Add another name to Cal’s 2019 recruiting class.
Three-star linebacker Blake Antzoulatos (West Hills, Calif.) gave his verbal commitment to the Golden Bears on Friday, according to a report from 247Sports’ Greg Biggins.

The 6-foot-2, 225-pound defender is listed as an inside linebacker, but his highlight tape shows versatility that makes him more attractive than his 3-star rating might suggest. His 40-yard dash time is 4.6 seconds, and it shows on film, where he displays a knack for reading and reacting quickly. His best asset is his closing speed, which he pairs with a consistent finishing ability that occasionally results in a big hit and is almost always guaranteed to make a difficult tackle, even in open space.
Antzoulatos had offers from three Pac-12 schools (Cal, Utah and Oregon State). His post-football ambition drove his decision to select Berkeley over the others, citing a desire to establish a career in law after he’s done playing football.
“There were a lot of reasons why I committed to Cal,” Antzoulatos said, via Biggins. “Of all the schools, they recruited me the hardest and I really developed a great relationship with coach (Peter) Sirmon [who’s in charge of inside linebackers].
“Coach Sirmon made me a priority and we talk almost daily. He’s a good coach and a person I feel I can trust and I know he can make me better. They have a big need for linebackers and I think I’ll have a great opportunity to come in and compete for playing time right away.”
Unlike some prospects, Antzoulatos possesses the size to battle for a job immediately. He’s listed as the No. 25 inside linebacker in the nation and No. 73 prospect in talent-rich California. His .8627 247Sports composite rating landed him at No. 667 in prospect rankings at all positions in the country, and the second-highest-rated recruit in Cal’s 2019 class.
Antzoulatos is the seventh recruit to commit to Cal for the 2019 class, and the second linebacker, joining 3-star outside linebacker Ryan Puskas (Peoria, Ariz.).
