Cal has reportedly found a new athletic director.
According to the Oregonian’s John Canzano, the Cal Bears are set to hire Air Force athletic director Jim Knowlton on Monday. Knowlton had been the leader of Air Force’s athletic department since 2015.
He is taking over for Mike Williams, who decided to step down once his contract expires on May 6, 2018.
“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve our great university as the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics,” Williams said at the time of his decision not to seek a contract extension, per the Cal Athletic Department. “This is a great department full of people who are passionate about what they do and truly believe in the mission of creating development opportunities for our student-athletes and providing them with a great experience.”
The Bears won 10 national titles during Williams’ tenure.
At Cal, Knowlton will inherit 30 intercollegiate programs and over 800 student-athletes.
Cal officially announced Knowlton as its director of athletics later on Monday.
