Watson played in 37 games at Cal. He entered last season as the Golden Bears starting running back but suffered a season-ending torn ACL in Week 2.
The Longhorns are getting an experienced back who can contribute in the run and pass game. Watson rushed for 1,390 yards, collected 379 receiving yards and had total 13 touchdowns at Cal. As a junior in 2016, he rushed for 709 yards and 4 touchdowns and added 241 yards and 4 more scores as a receiver.
Watson graduates from Cal this month. He will be eligible to play immediately.
Texas returns a number of contributors from its 2017 squad, including Daniel Young, who started the last five games of the season and totaled 373 rushing yards, Kyle Porter (261 yards) and Toneil Carter (252).
