This offseason, South Carolina quarterback Jake Bentley told reporters that the Gamecocks weren’t that far behind the national champion Clemson Tigers. As expected, that gave a good chuckle to the Clemson faithful, including two “elderly women” who root for the Tigers.
But not only were these two “elderly ladies” entertained from Bentley’s comments, they proceeded to troll him about it on Twitter.
“It was crazy,” Bentley said according to Tiger.net. “These two elderly ladies always killing me on it. That’s part of the reason you stay off Twitter.”
He might not see anymore comments from the fanbase of his biggest rival this year, but the best way to shut up the ferocious “elderly ladies” would be to put up a better fight against Clemson this season. Last year, the Tigers destroyed the Gamecocks, 56-7.
South Carolina won five games consecutively versus its in-state rival from 2009-13, but Clemson has won each of the last three meetings by a combined score of 128-56.
As a freshman last year, Bentley completed 65.8 percent of his passes for 1,420 yards, 9 touchdowns and 4 interceptions in 7 games. He was 7-of-17 passing for just 41 yards and threw an pick with no touchdowns against the Tigers.
