Clemson players on Jake Bentley: ‘He’s entitled to his own opinion’

South Carolina quarterback Jake Bentley has gone on record as saying that despite the Gamecocks’ humiliating loss to Clemson last November, the difference in talent between the two teams isn’t that great.

This season, as the Tigers prepare for their annual rivalry game against the Gamecocks, some of their players, including Kendall Joseph, are downplaying Bentley’s comments, saying that the sophomore can say whatever he wants.

Well, he’s entitled to his own opinion. If I was on that team, I’d want my quarterback to say the same thing and have that confidence.

After losing five in a row to South Carolina in the Palmetto Bowl, Clemson has turned the corner. It has now won the last three games in the rivalry, including a 56-7 blowout at Death Valley last season.

Still, Clemson defensive lineman Clelin Ferrell said, the Tigers understand that the Gamecocks will have something to prove as the home team on Saturday.

Last year they didn’t really put on the performance that they wanted to. We know that at home this year, night game, the last game of the season for them, they’re definitely going to want to come out and try to put this one to bed and show that they feel like last year was a mistake on their part.

Clemson and South Carolina will meet at 7:30 pm ET Saturday in the regular-season finale for both teams. The game can be seen on ESPN.
