Clemson is ranked fourth going into Tuesday night’s College Football Playoff rankings show. The Tigers took care of business on Saturday, downing Florida State 31-14. No. 1 Georgia and No. 3 Notre Dame lost. Without more context, it would seem like Clemson would rise in the next poll.

These rankings are defensible, of course. No. 5 Oklahoma’s win over TCU was more impressive than Clemson’s, while Miami shellacked No. 3 Notre Dame. Regardless, it will be interesting to see if this is how it plays out on Tuesday night. Clemson and Miami will meet in the ACC title game, though, so maybe all of this a moot. But this is the kind of stuff that can shape narratives.
