Clemson football recruiting officially has momentum.
In the matter of about an hour Saturday morning, the Tigers landed two elite recruits for the 2019 class, the second of which was 4-star quarterback Taisun Phommachanh. According to multiple reports, Phommachanh has verbally committed to Clemson.
The Bridgeport, CT native is the No. 3 dual-threat quarterback in the 2019 class based on the 247Sports composite rankings. He chose to sign with the Tigers instead of Florida State, Penn State, South Carolina and a few other Power 5 schools.
With this signing, the Tigers have landed an elite quarterback prospect three straight years. In 2018, Clemson signed the top quarterback recruit in Trevor Lawrence, who is doing very well in spring practice and is expected to compete with Kelly Bryant for the starting job. In the 2017 recruiting class, the Tigers signed 5-star quarterback Hunter Johnson, who is still on the roster as a backup.
In addition to Phommachanh, Clemson also landed 5-star wide receiver Frank Ladson on Saturday. They are now the Tigers’ top two rated recruits for the 2019 class.
With both additions, Clemson has the No. 12 overall class, including second-best in the ACC, for 2019 according to 247Sports. But at this rate, the Tigers might be in the top 10 before the weekend is complete.
