Duke just wrapped up one of the best signing classes in college basketball history, and it appears it will ride that recruiting momentum into 2019.
The Blue Devils were named one of five finalists for 5-star University School (Fla.) product Vernon Carey, who release his top five Wednesday via Twitter. Michigan State, North Carolina, Kentucky and Miami round out the top five.

Carey is the best power forward and second overall player in the Class of 2019, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings. He was named Florida’s Mr. Basketball after averaging 26.1 points and 10.4 rebounds per game as a junior.
The Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native has already had official visits with Michigan State and Kentucky and unofficial visits with Duke and Miami. All five coaches have had in-home visits with Carey as well.
Duke has the nation’s best class in 2018, signing four of the 12 best prospects: R.J. Barrett (No. 1), Cameron Reddish (No. 2), Zion Williamson (No. 5) and Tre Jones (No. 12). The Blue Devils also have a commitment from 4-star small forward Joey Baker, who ranks as the country’s 31st-best player.
Duke has no commits for the Class of 2019 yet. It will likely need a hefty reload because it is expected that the majority of this year’s signing class will consist of one-and-done players. Carey could be the centerpiece for the next crop of Blue Devils.
