Cam Newton makes special appearance at Florida State
The Florida State football spring game was full of excitement this weekend, with dozens of the nation’s top recruits and a number of Seminoles legends all making their way to Tallahassee for the festivities.
And then there was a more perplexing visitor — Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton.
During the offseason, Newton sponsors and helps coach a 7-on-7 team that happened to be in Tallahassee for a tournament last weekend. Newton made a personal appearance at the Florida State spring game, but when his team’s games were cancelled due to the weather, he brought the whole squad over to check out the facilities.
The official Cam Newton 7v7 Twitter page tweeted out a picture of the team watching a video in Florida State’s theater room and then Willie Taggart also tweeted out a photo of himself and the superstar quarterback. In it, he thanked Newton for all that he does for his team.
And it wasn’t just a sight-seeing field trip either. Julian Nixon, a 6-foot-4, 205-pound wide receiver in the Class of 2021 who plays for Newton’s travel team, added an offer from Florida State while he was on campus.
Nixon already had offers from Auburn, Ohio State, Georgia and Florida despite just being a rising sophomore. So, outside of making for a cool photo opportunity, if Taggart can form a bond with Newton, it could help build a lucrative pipeline into recruiting the Atlanta area where Newton’s team is based.
