Florida State baseball coach Mike Martin has been a Seminole for a long time and in early August he will have the opportunity to speak to many new FSU graduates.
Martin will be the keynote speaker at FSU’s 2017 summer commencement ceremony, the university announced Thursday. Martin’s commencement address will take place on Saturday, Aug. 5. as the school celebrates the graduation of 2,510 students.
Martin, who played at Florida State in the 1960s, has coached at Florida State for 38 seasons, winning nearly 2,000 games in that time. Since 1980, Martin has compiled a career record of 1,944-694-4, which makes him the second all-time winningest coach in NCAA Division I college baseball history.
Florida State has made 38 consecutive postseason appearances under Martin and has played in 16 College World Series. The Seminoles have won seven ACC Tournament championships on his watch since 1992.
Martin was inducted into the Florida Sports Hall of Fame in 2005 and the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2007.
