Former Florida State standout Devonta Freeman signed an extension with the Atlanta Falcons on Wednesday.
The Falcons confirmed the five-year deal, which reportedly is worth $41.25 million — an annual salary that makes him the highest-paid running back in the NFL.

Freeman will take home an annual average of $8.25 million over the life of the deal, which includes $22 million in guarantees and a $15 million signing bonus, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. Freeman was playing on his rookie deal and is set to do so again in 2017; that deal will pay him $1.797 million this season.
The contract extension runs through the 2022 season.
A fourth-round draft pick in 2014, Freeman has scored 11 touchdowns and rushed for more than 1,000 yards in each of the last two seasons.
