Florida State men’s basketball won more games last season than any other during Leonard Hamilton’s 15-year tenure, yet still, it doesn’t seem as though the Seminoles are getting the respect they deserve around the country.
However, College Basketball Insider Jon Rothstein predicts they will be a big surprise once again this winter. Rothstein named the Seminoles his “sleeper team” in the ACC.
Hamilton’s squad lost their top three scorers from last season’s team – Dwayne Bacon, Jonathan Isaac and Xavier Rathan-Mayes – but Rothstein included Florida State incoming freshman M.J. Walker and Ikey Obiagu, both of whom were 4-star prospects, on his top 15 impact ACC freshmen list.
Rothstein is confident that with those recruits and a handful of returning players, the Seminoles will still be a threat in men’s college basketball’s best conference:
Last season, Florida State went 26-9, including 12-6 in conference play, which was the second-best regular season record in the ACC. The Seminoles advanced to the semifinals in the conference tournament and then fell to Xavier in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Rothstein ranked Florida State seventh on his ACC offseason power rankings this week. The college basketball insider has Louisville, Duke, North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Notre Dame and Miami ahead of the Seminoles.
