Florida State officially has recruiting momentum.
After landing 5-star defensive back Akeem Dent on Friday, Seminoles coach Jimbo Fisher approved a commitment from 3-star safety Johnathan Huggins.
Huggins committed to Florida State at the coach’s football camp on June 14, but Fisher told him he was still being evaluated, which included his academic progress according to The Orlando Sentinel. Fisher accepted his commitment Friday afternoon.
“It feels good,” said Huggins afterwards. “Coach Fisher said I’m good now. I feel phenomenal about it. I feel comfortable with all the coaches here and they treat me like part of the family. I feel like I could start school here tomorrow.
“Coach Fisher said, ‘You still trying to come here?’ and I told him, ‘Yes sir.’ ”
The Daytona Beach Mainland safety stands at 6-feet tall and 200 pounds. He is the 89-ranked safety in the 2018 recruiting class according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
Florida State now has 15 commitments in the 2018 recruiting class. The Seminoles also have a pair of 4-star cornerbacks, including the son of former All-Pro NFL cornerback Asante Samuel, signed up in the class.
Dent will join Florida State as part of the 2019 recruiting class. He is the No. 5 overall player in the class according to 247Sports.
