Nyqwan Murray and Auden Tate led Florida State in receptions last year. Murray (40 catches) is back, but Tate (40 receptions and 10 touchdowns) is off to the NFL with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Tate’s departure leaves a sizable hole on the Florida State offense, but redshirt freshman Tamorrion Terry appears poised to fill the void.
247Sports released a list of the top ACC breakout candidates for the 2018 football season, including one player from each team. Terry was their selection from Florida State.
“Redshirted last season, Terry has made an impression on new coach Willie Taggart,” 247Sports wrote. “At 6-foot-4 and 197 pounds, he has shown quickness and had the advantage in many 1-on-1 matchups during practices. He should vie with Nyqwan Murray … to see who emerges as the top receiver.”
Murray, who also had 40 receptions and led the team with 604 receiving yards, is returning for his senior season, but Terry has a chance to usurp him for the top target in the passing game.
Terry was impressive during spring practice. He made a spectacular circus catch during the Seminoles’ spring game, and then a few days later, coach Willie Taggart admitted Terry was “one of the first guys” that he could remember learning his name.
The sky appears to be the limit for his first season of game action in Tallahassee.
