Vikings cornerback Xavier Rhodes enjoyed a successful season at Florida State. That has carried over to his time in the NFL, where he has appeared in a pair of Pro Bowls and placed his name on the list of first-team All Pro players after the 2017 season.
Interestingly enough, Rhodes wasn’t heavily recruited as he was only offered by four schools – Auburn, Florida State, FIU and West Virginia. Of course, he went on to stay in-state and commit to now-former Seminoles coach Bobby Bowden just days before the signing period began. The rest is history.
While we won’t know Bowden’s full pitch to Rhodes – in fairness, the opportunity to play in state for one of the most well-known coaches in college football was a selling point in and of itself – we do know of a little twist this particular process took. Here’s Rhodes himself to talk about it:

Rhodes has a good point: Bowden had a few years’ age difference on Rhodes’ aunt (OK, maybe more than a few). At that point, he’d been married for nearly 60 years as well. Credit to Rhodes’ aunt for giving it a try, though (we think).
In the end, Rhodes ended up attending Florida State. So this story certainly has a happy ending.
