The last time Harrison Butker kicked at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, he and Georgia Tech were in the ACC Championship Game. He returned to kick at Charlotte’s NFL home Wednesday, this time a member of the Carolina Panthers.

Butker received his first opportunity to kick a field goal in a NFL game against the Houston Texans on Wednesday. He nailed a 51-yard field goal in the fourth quarter of the Week 1 preseason game, perhaps giving the Panthers coaching staff something to really think about this August.

Carolina’s long-time kicker Graham Gano was 1 for 2 kicking goals Wednesday. He struggled last season too, hitting only 30 out of 38 field goals for a percentage of 78.9. Butker is competing with Gano for a roster spot.

The Panthers drafted Butker in the seventh round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He made all 46 of his extra-points his senior year and was 15 for 17 on field goal attempts in 2016.
