Iowa State football is off to its best start since 2002 after convincingly defeating Texas Tech on Saturday. With a 5-2 record and a possible ranking on the way, the Cyclones have launched a full-on social media celebration.
Iowa State began campaigning on Twitter for ESPN College GameDay to set up camp for the Cyclones’ matchup against No. 4 TCU on Oct. 28. Iowa State has never hosted the beloved pregame football show since it began traveling around the nation in the 1990s. Iowa State is the only current Big 12 team to never be featured on the show — home or away.

TCU already hosted College GameDay for its matchup against No. 23 West Virginia on Oct. 7. If ESPN does decide to set its sights in Ames, it would mark TCU’s second featured appearance on the show in a span of four games.
But that wasn’t Iowa State football’s only Twitter highlight after the win on Saturday.
The Cyclones — in a since-deleted tweet — “thanked” Texas Tech for having them in town during the Red Raiders’ homecoming weekend. Iowa State won the game 31-13, sending the Red Raiders to a 4-3 record after they were ranked No. 24 just one week ago against West Virginia.
The football hype in Ames is at a level many current college students have not experienced in their lifetimes — or at least in their memory. Iowa State has won four straight road games for the first time in more than 50 years and is 3-1 in Big 12 play for the first time since 2002.
It will take some getting used to. But at the end of the day, Iowa State’s Big 12 title hopes are alive and well — at least for now.
