Kansas State may not have named its starting quarterback for 2018 yet, but the Wildcats are considered to be in great shape at that position no matter what.
CBS Sports’ Barton Simmons ranked the top 25 quarterback rooms in the FBS for this season. That includes starters, backups and quarterback coaches. He ranked the Wildcats No. 16 in the country and No. 2 in the Big 12 behind Oklahoma. Regardless of who wins the competition between Skylar Thompson and Alex Delton, Simmons is confident in what Kansas State has at the position.
From CBS Sports:
Kansas State upset Oklahoma State last season behind Thompson and nearly upset Oklahoma with Delton. Whether it’s Delton’s legs, Thompson’s arm or some balance of both, Kansas State has plenty of capable options under center.
Thompson saw playing time in eight games last season, completing 61 percent of his passes for 689 yards, 5 touchdowns and 3 interceptions while running for 267 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also led the Wildcats to a wild victory over Oklahoma State.
Delton, in seven games, completed 58 percent of his passes for 637 yards, 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. He ran for 500 yards and 8 touchdowns. He had 158 rushing yards and 4 total touchdowns to help lead Kansas State to victory over UCLA in the Cactus Bowl.
Both quarterbacks have proven they can win games. And they’re overseen by a Kansas State great in quarterbacks coach Collin Klein. All those factors should make Wildcats fans pretty confident regardless of how the quarterback competition goes.
