Is David Beaty the right man for the job at Kansas?
If so, he’ll have to prove that’s the case in short order.
Approaching the halfway point of his third season in Lawrence, one can count how many times Kansas finished with more points than its opponent on one hand with fingers to spare. That’s not ideal.
As a result, Beaty was named on CBS Sports’ Dennis Dodd’s Hot Seat Rankings among the ‘must win immediately’ category.
“Beaty is 3-25 with one FBS win in three seasons. With $350 million in facilities improvements coming online, does AD Sheahon Zenger want Beaty to be the face of the program?”
In 28 attempts, Beaty has beaten only Rhode Island, Texas and Southeast Missouri State, and it may be quite some time before the Jayhawks earn their next win. After opening the season at 1-0, the Jayhawks have dropped their last three games and according to ESPN’s FPI, Kansas isn’t projected to win another game this season.
If the Jayhawks did, in fact, drop every remaining game throughout 2017, Beaty’s third season at the helm would conclude with a porous 3-33 record and a regression from 2016’s two-win campaign.
That’s not how one keeps their post as a program’s coach long-term, especially one entering the beginning stages of a $350 million facelift.
