Sharpshooting Kansas forward Svi Mykhailiuk is headed to the City of Angels after the Los Angeles Lakers selected him with the No. 47 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.
Mykhailiuk, who originally hails from Cherkasy, Ukraine, was the second Kansas player taken Thursday night after former teammate Devonte’ Graham was selected with the No. 34 pick.
While with the Jayhawks, Mykhailiuk made his reputation based on his skills from beyond the arc. He shot 44.4 percent from three-point range in his senior year and 40.9 percent from deep in his four-year Kansas career. At 6-foot-8, his height gives him an advantage on opposing defenders and allows him to get his shot off despite close coverage.
He’s listed at just 195 pounds, so Mykhailiuk will need to fill out to compete in the NBA. His shooting stroke is undeniable, however, and the Lakers can plug him in to space out the offense whenever needed.
