Malik Newman led the charge against the Duke Blue Devils, scoring 32 of the Jayhawks’ 85 points in their 85-81 overtime victory.
His postseason emergence has been one of the biggest blessings for a Kansas squad that appears to be peaking at the right time.
Newman had a 10-point outing in Kansas’s first game against Penn, which dulls his points per game in the NCAA Tournament to 19.3.
In the Jayhawks’ other three tournament games, Newman has scored 32, 17, and 28 points.
If Newman can continue at this incredible clip, Kansas will have a definite shot at winning the tournament. Up next for the Jayhawks are the Villanova Wildcats, who can also score in bunches. Defending the perimeter will be key against Villanova and star guard Jalen Brunson.
Though, if Newman can keep scoring at his incredible clip, it might put the offensive minded Wildcats on the defense.
