Chad Thomas has the physical traits to dominate in the NFL, but the tape over the course of his four-year career at Miami shows a disappointing lack of production.
Despite that, 247Sports’ Chris Hummer has the former Miami defensive end as one of his 10 college football players that are projected too low. Thomas is projected as a second- or third-round pick by NFL.com.
The reason is based on Thomas’ physical skills. The Miami native has prototypical size at 6-foot-5, 281 pounds and also has the speed to be a terrific pass rusher off the edge.
Thomas flashed his potential as a senior, registering career-highs in total tackles (41), tackles for loss (12.5) and sacks (5.5). Those sack numbers are disappointing, but he still ranked as the nation’s 31st-best edge rusher, according to Pro Football Focus.
Thomas is also a talented music producer, which has led some to question his dedication to football. However, he has maintained he is dedicated to football. If that is the case, whichever team that takes him could end up with one of the biggest steals of the draft.
