Linder started all 13 games as a sophomore and the first eight as a junior before sustaining a shoulder injury that ended his season.
“Nick is going to sit out this season, he’s going to go home I think and train for one semester and then he’s going to transfer somewhere else,” Richt said Monday after practice, according to Susan Miller Degnan of the Miami Herald. “He’s a graduate transfer. He graduates in a couple days.”
When asked why Linder left, Richt said, “you have to ask him,” per Miller Degnan. Richt added that he’s “disappointed, because I’d rather him be here than not be here.”
After Linder’s shoulder injury last season, then-senior Alex Gall started the last four games. Linder’s transfer now forces junior Tyler Gauthier to bump up to the starting position and freshman Corey Gaynor as the backup, Richt said, per Miller Degnan. Redshirt sophomore Hayden Mahoney is also playing at center, according to the report. Gauthier started the last four games of last season at left guard.
