One of the best cornerbacks in the Class of 2019 has finally set his visit date with Miami. Chris Steele, the No. 4 cornerback in the 247Sports composite rankings, will officially visit the Hurricanes this summer.
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound corner from St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, Calif., plans to visit Miami the weekend of June 16.

The timing of Steele’s visit seems logical. Steele will be in Florida the same weekend for the National 7v7 Football Association National Championship in Bradenton. The senior has yet to visit the Hurricanes, although he’s spoken highly of Miami since it offered Jan. 23.
On Thursday, Steele placed the Hurricanes in his top 8 along with a number of schools he’s more familiar with. Southern Cal’s proximity to Steele makes it a major player. Oklahoma also hosted Steele for an official visit the weekend of April 14. Miami’s ability to remain a player so deep into Steele’s recruitment without hosting him for a visit is a testament to cornerback coach Mike Rumph’s persistence.
“My dad and Coach Rumph talk nearly every single day. He’s left a great impression not just on myself, but on my family, as well,” Steele told DieHards in March. “I’ll be out there very, very soon.”
The Hurricanes have mostly wanted to save their official visits for the fall, but they made an exception in April when they hosted 4-star weakside defensive end Kevin Harris before his commitment date. It’s a similar case for Steele, who said he plans to commit July 7.
The 4-star prospect is worth the effort, too. Steele logged 22 tackles and 5 passes defended in seven games as a junior. He also earned invitations to The Opening Finals, the U.S. Army All-American Bowl and the Polynesian Bowl with a dominant camp circuit. Steele’s summer commitment will be his second. He committed to UCLA in January 2017 before de-committing in August.
