Malik Mayweather is a walk-on wide receiver with Miami football no more. The rising junior was put on scholarship Friday after practice by Miami coach Mark Richt, according to reports.
“He has been a tremendous student,” Richt said per 247sports. “He has been a tremendous player. He’s targeted to graduate at the end of December. We’re going to put him on aid between now and when he graduates. It’s good news for him and his family.”
Mayweather has played in one game in his career, seeing action in Miami’s season-opener against Florida A&M last season on Sept. 3. Mayweather was the co-winner of the Albert Bentley Most Valuable Walk-on Award last season.
He began his Miami career in 2013, but then transferred to East Mississippi Community College for two seasons (2014-15) before returning to play for the Hurricanes in 2016.
