It would be easy for any prospect in the country to write off the school’s associated with the FBI’s investigation into college basketball and the unknowns that surround the programs involved. But 5-star prospect Wendell Moore believes NC State when it tells him everything is fine.
“(NC State coaches) tell me that all the time,” Moore told The News & Observer’s Jonas Pope IV on Saturday. “The situation is kind of past them because they are a new coaching staff. Obviously they have a certain (amount) of accountability because of the school itself, but the basketball program should be fine, they say.
““They cleared everything up for me, so there’s really no concerns anymore.”
Moore ranks as the 4th-best small forward and 19th overall player in the Class of 2019, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings. He has narrowed his recruitment down to five schools: NC State, Duke, North Carolina, South Carolina and Wake Forest.
NC State is involved with the investigation because of an alleged payment between former Adidas executive Jim Gatto and Dennis Smith Sr., the father of former NC State guard Dennis Smith Jr.
Moore would be the first 5-star prospect to join the Wolfpack since Smith Jr. and the first under second-year coach Kevin Keatts.
