The North Carolina Tar Heels are expected to add 12 commits as part of early signing day on Wednesday, Dec. 20. Of those 12 commits, two of them are running backs, including 3-star prospect Javonte Williams.

How Javonte Williams fits at North Carolina
The Tar Heels have a very young backfield with sophomore Jordon Brown and freshman Michael Carter finishing the 2017 season as the top two rushers for North Carolina, so it appears Williams will be added strictly for depth initially. He is a prospect a little on the rise, though, as he jumped from being a 2-star to 3-star commit at 247Sports.
North Carolina also has 3-star running back Devon Lawrence poised to sign during the early signing period on Wednesday. Lawrence and Williams have similar body types, as both backs are listed at 5-foot-11 and 195 pounds.
Lawrence comes to Chapel Hill much more highly regarded as the the No. 26 recruit in the class at their position. Williams barely cracked the top 100 at running back, but it will be interesting to see if he can carve out a role during spring practice.
