Join us daily at ACC DieHards for the latest North Carolina recruiting news and notes on the next crop of Tar Heels. In this edition, we discuss the top 10 for 4-star 2019 point guard Jeremiah Francis and an offer to another elite player in the Class of 2019 — 5-star forward Vernon Carey Jr.

Jeremiah Francis drops top 10

Toward the end of last week, Roy Williams decided on his first point guard offer for the Class of 2019, extending one to 4-star Pickerington, Ohio, point guard Jeremiah Francis.

Obviously, that offer meant something, because it helped land the Tar Heels in Francis’ top 10, which dropped Sunday evening. North Carolina was featured along with West Virginia, Indiana, Purdue, Florida State, Missouri, Iowa, TCU, Ohio State and Dayton.

While that’s a good sign for the Tar Heels in the early stages of Francis’ recruitment, it isn’t time to pop any champagne in celebration just yet. When Francis released his top 10, he had 15 offers, meaning Detroit, Duquesne, Nebraska, Ohio and Virginia Tech were eliminated. While Butler, Michigan and Texas have expressed interest, none have offered Francis.

While Francis might fall just short of a 5-star rating, Williams doesn’t see him as an inferior point guard. Francis got the offer before 5-star point guard Ashton Hagans, who is a consensus top 15 player in the Class of 2019.

That level of priority has helped North Carolina in his recruitment, too. Since Francis picked up his offer, the 247Sports Crystal Ball has shifted from a 100 percent lean to Ohio State to a 50-50 split between the Buckeyes and North Carolina.

Tar Heels offer top 2019 prospect Vernon Carey Jr.

North Carolina made a splash on the trail over the weekend, offering three players, including two of the top prospects in the Class of 2019. But the Tar Heels aren’t done.

On Monday, Williams followed those three offers with another one — his biggest yet for the Class of 2019. Monday evening, Vernon Carey Jr., the top-rated 2019 player in the 247Sports composite, tweeted that North Carolina had offered him.

As the top-rated player, he has a composite score of .9997, meaning he’s considered a 100 out of 100 prospect by nearly every recruiting outlet considered in the score, which is no small feat.

The 6-foot-9, 245-pound forward is up to 15 offers, including Baylor, Georgetown, Kansas, Louisville and UCLA. Of course, there are three offers that stand above the others for the Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native: Florida State, Florida and Miami. Miami seems to be the school to watch, with 100 percent of the 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions.

North Carolina has offered a handful of players in the Class of 2019, most coming this week. It still is searching for its first commitment in the class.
