North Carolina recruiting: Roy Williams offers three top 150 players
Join us daily at ACC DieHards for the latest North Carolina recruiting news and notes on the next crop of Tar Heels. Today, we discuss a busy day for head basketball coach Roy Williams, who extended offers to three top 150 forwards on Monday following the weekend’s Adidas Summer Championships in Las Vegas.
North Carolina may not have a lot of space in its Class of 2018, but that didn’t stop Tar Heels coach Roy Williams from having a busy weekend in Las Vegas at the Adidas Summer Championships.
As part of the third live period of the summer, Williams took the time to evaluate several elite frontcourt prospects to pair with guards Coby White and Rechon Black.
Among the most elite of those prospects were 5-star power forward Simisola Shittu and 5-star small forward Nassir Little. Williams liked what he saw from both players during the period, as both pulled down an offer from the Tar Heels on Monday.

Neither offer is very surprising, but Little’s offer was especially expected.
Little, the No. 22 overall player in the country and No. 6 small forward, had been evaluated by North Carolina in the previous live periods and, according to Rivals’ Clint Jackson, assistant coach Steve Robinson had been in contact with Little’s coaches after each evaluation period.
“I actually spoke to Coach Robinson earlier and he told me that Coach Williams would be calling me later,” Little told Rivals’ Tar Heel Illustrated. “He did and I spoke to him, and he told me about the offer. … It feels really good.”
It’s no surprise that Williams had his eye on Little. The coaching staff is already comparing him to senior Theo Pinson, a former 5-star prospect.
“UNC sees me as like a Theo,” Little said. “They feel that if I come in and work I can be a big contribution and win a national championship.”
The Florida product is up to 36 offers, according to 247Sports. St. John’s and Florida are among the favorites to land Little. Georgia Tech is still in the mix and has secured his first official visit on Aug. 26.
Also in that Rivals piece, Jackson mentioned that Shittu was expected to net an offer, so his didn’t come as a surprise, either. At 6-foot-8, 210 pounds, the nation’s No. 12 overall player and No. 4 power forward offers a real athletic presence in the frontcourt. The Vermont product is sitting on 18 offers, including Kentucky, UConn and Baylor.
Williams didn’t stop with Shittu and Little, though. In addition to those two, Williams offered 4-star small forward Nate Laszewski.

The relationship between the Tar Heels and Laszewski picked up over the weekend, with Williams watching him play a couple of times on Saturday. The No. 127 player nationally and the No. 37 overall small forward, Laszewski is the teammate of incoming North Carolina freshman Andrew Platek.
Laszewski also has ties to Wisconsin, where his dad Jay played basketball in the mid-80s, and his sister Abby currently plays. He has 18 offers in total, including the Badgers, Notre Dame, Arizona and Baylor.
