Notre Dame basketball coach Mike Brey has been asked to help coach in the USA Basketball developmental program this spring in Colorado.
According to a press release from Notre Dame, Brey will be one of four court coaches in Colorado Springs from May 31-June 2 as the U18 National Team holds training camp. He’ll coach a group of prospective players and then help the coaching staff of Bill Self (Kansas), Anthony Grant (Dayton) and Danny Manning (Wake Forest) select the roster.
“It is an honor to be a part of USA Basketball, which plays such a key role in setting the worldwide standard for our sport,” Brey said. “I’m looking forward to working with the athletes that will be a part of the foundation for basketball in the United States over the next decade and helping out a great coaching staff that has already been assembled.”
Purdue coach Matt Painter chairs the USA Basketball Men’s Junior National Committee. He selected Brey along with Joe Dooley of East Carolina, Oliver Drake of Midland and Chuck Moore of Richard Bland College.
Brey is a former assistant of Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski, who has been a prominent figure in USA Basketball for decades and coached the Men’s National Team to three consecutive gold medals in 2008, 2012 and 2016.
