Notre Dame has landed one of the top defensive end prospects in the Class of 2019.
Fort Worth (Texas) Nolan Catholic weakside defensive end Nana Osafo-Mensah, a 4-star recruit considered the No. 7 player at his position by 247Sports.com, spurned an in-state challenge from Texas and pledged to the Fighting Irish during a commitment ceremony at his high school’s spring game on Saturday.
Osafo-Mensah took an official visit to Notre Dame in April and was extremely impressed with the experience.
“It was honestly one of the best weekends I’ve ever experienced in my life,” he told 247Sports’ Tom Loy of the visit. “I got all of my questions about Notre Dame answered. … I couldn’t feel better about Notre Dame right now.”
While that was followed by an official visit to Texas in May, Notre Dame made the biggest impact.
Osafo-Mensah is the 10th player to commit to the Fighting Irish in the Class of 2019 and the second highest-ranked recruit so far, a spot below Minneapolis offensive tackle Quinn Carroll.
