Notre Dame will welcome freshman wide receiver Braden Lenzy later this offseason, but before he arrives on campus he had some unfinished business to attend to in an effort to conclude his high school athletics career.
Lenzy competed in the Oregon Track and Field Championships this weekend and showcased the blazing speed that made him an elite recruit in the Class of 2018, according to a report from Pete Sampson of IrishIllustrated.com.
He competed in the 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash, the 4×100-meter relay and the 4×400-meter relay, taking home three runner-up finishes and a state title as part of the 4×100-meter team. The 4-star football recruit ran the 200 in 21.57 seconds and ran the 400 in 47.52 seconds, while his 4×100 team finished in 41.68 seconds and his 4×400 team finished in 3:18.11.
The 247Sports composite rankings listed Lenzy as the No. 215 recruit in the country. The Tigard High School product from Portland signed with the Irish during the early signing period on Dec. 22.
At one time he was committed to play at Oregon, but he de-committed just over two weeks before signing with Notre Dame. Originally listed as an athlete, Notre Dame has made it clear it will utilize his speed (at least to start) as a wide receiver in South Bend.
