Notre Dame football may have only won four games last season, but one probably wouldn’t know it from the Fighting Irish recruiting success this summer. On Tuesday, 4-star linebacker Shayne Simon announced his commitment to Notre Dame on Twitter.

“I want to offer gratitude to God, my family, friends, teammates and coaches for all their support,” Simon wrote in his Tweet. “I want to thank all the tremendous coaches who I have met along this journey and to thank them for their time, insights and inspirations.
“After a long and difficult deliberation, I am excited to announce that I have decided to attend the University of Notre Dame.”
Simon is considered the eighth-best player at outside linebacker and the No. 115 overall prospect in the 2018 recruiting class according to the 247Sports composite rankings. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound senior from St. Peters Prep in Jersey City, N.J. also had offers from Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State and UCLA.
With the addition of Simon, Notre Dame’s 2018 class jumps into the top 10 according to 247Sports. The outside linebacker is the 14th player, including the third-highest rated prospect the Fighting Irish have landed for 2018.
