Welcome to the Thursday edition of our Oklahoma State DieHards morning roundup, where we take you through the biggest headlines around Oklahoma State athletics.

Oakland inks Marcell Ateman

The Oakland Raiders found a steal in the seventh round. Former Oklahoma State wide receiver Marcell Ateman slipped to the last round of the 2018 NFL Draft, landing with the Raiders as the 228th overall selection.

Ateman could’ve dropped down the draft board for a number of reasons, but none of them matter now after the former Cowboys player officially signed with the Raiders on Wednesday.

Ateman wasn’t always the “best receiver” on his team. That’s a bit more difficult to do when the best wide receiver in the country — 2017 Biletnikoff Award winner James Washington — is also on the squad. But he’s a huge pass catcher who will make it rough on smaller defensive backs.

Ateman must play to his size, and he’s typically great at that in the red zone. He’ll likely need to expand his skill set more in the NFL, but the Raiders obviously like Ateman’s potential. At least enough to not let him slip into the undrafted free agent market.

Elena Brynjarsdottir joins Cowgirls

Reykjavik, Iceland, native Elena Brynjarsdottir signed with Oklahoma State soccer on Wednesday.

The 2018 forward is well-accomplished in her young career. She’s represented Iceland at the 2014 European U-17 Championship and competed in Iceland’s top division with Breidablik and Grindavik.

“Elena is a very dangerous attacking player who has great speed and looks to dribble and take on defenders,” Oklahoma State coach Colin Carmichael said in a release. “She is technically very clean on the ball, and her understanding of the game and her movement off the ball is very good. She will be a threat to score and will help us create chances in the final third.”
